An Oil ETN, or Oil Exchange Traded Note, provides access to the returns of oil market benchmarks without the usual problems associated with Exchange Traded Funds, such as tracking errors, liquidity of the underlying commodity, etc.  The returns of Oil ETNs are linked to a market benchmark or strategy, less investor fees.

 


PowerShares DB Crude Oil ETNs

Investors can buy and sell the PowerShares DB Crude Oil ETNs at market price on the NYSE Arca exchange or receive a cash payment at the scheduled maturity or early repurchase based on the month-over-month performance of the index less investor fees. Investors may redeem the PowerShares DB Crude Oil ETNs in blocks of no less than 200,000 securities and integral multiples of 50,000 securities thereafter, subject to the procedures described in the pricing supplement, which may include a fee of up to $0.03 per security.  Prospectus

The PowerShares DB Crude Oil Long ETN (Symbol:  OLO) is based on the Optimum YieldTM total return version of the Deutsche Bank Liquid Commodity Index — Oil.  The index is intended to track the long performance of the underlying basket of oil futures contracts. 

The PowerShares DB Crude Oil Short ETN (Symbol: SZO) is based on the standard version of the total return version of the Deutsche Bank Liquid Commodity Index — Oil.  The index is intended to track the short performance of the underlying basket of oil futures contracts. 

The PowerShares DB Crude Oil Double Short ETN (Symbol: DTO) is based on the standard version of the total return version of the Deutsche Bank Liquid Commodity Index — Oil.  The index is intended to track the short performance of the underlying basket of oil futures contracts.



Goldman Sachs Crude Oil Total Return ETN

The iPath Goldman Sachs Crude Oil Total Return Index ETN (Symbol OIL) is a subindex of the Goldman Sachs Commodity Index. The Goldman Sachs Crude Oil Total Return Index reflects the returns that are potentially available through an unleveraged investment in the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures contract plus the Treasury Bill rate of interest that could be earned on funds committed to the trading of the underlying contracts.  The iPath Goldman Sachs Crude Oil Total Return Index ETN can be bought and sold on the NYSE Arca exchange.  Prospectus
